If you could make a top 10 list of things to learn, change or do in 2009 what would your list consist of? With the list what if you supplied the reason for your list as well? That way you identify the “what” and the “why”. Here is my list:
- More time with my family – I’ve spent a lot of time over the last five years making transitions, developing my business and cultivating people and relationships. My family has been very understanding and it is time for me to thank them with giving them my time.
- Finish writing my books on dreaming and entrepreneurship (then get started on many more) – Because it is my belief that we all have a song, a book, a poem, a play or something in us that needs to created. It must come out and not go to the grave with you when you one day leave this blessing called life. In other words, the grave will not hold the stuff that is supposed to be shared with others and thus robbing people of what was placed in our lives to make a difference.
- Finish projects around my house – I have been in my house for seven years and there are things that I planned to do and just haven’t gotten around to.
- Accept 2 board positions for local not-for-profit organizations – My love language is giving and I enjoy it. However, I do it responsibly and not out of guilt, pressure or the need to give. I have already worked for a not-for-profit for almost 10 years and now I want to serve with what I have learned from my experiences with my businesses.
- Develop a sports recreation league – I love coaching kids. They are my break from the world of adults and they inspire me to dream and believe that anything is possible. I want to help kids to be healthy through activity, learn the values of playing as a team, learn the lessons of being a true champion through winning and losing, and help them find their identity and develop character.
- Develop my mentoring program in colleges (This is already in process) – Because most students today have peers but not mentors.
- Finish my music project – All the songs have been written. Most of them have been tracked. Just need to wrap it up.
- Read books about Abraham Lincoln, James Madison and Ronald Reagan – They are 3 men that I am very interested in learning more about.
- Polish up on my French – I had once spoken French fluently and would like to be able to once again.
- Start 2 or 3 new blogs – Because it is a form of being a responsible contributor to mankind.
That’s my top 10 list. What’s yours? Write it out and go for it.

Great challenge Tim. Neat website too!
My list:
1) Enjoy my family more…I’ve spent a lot of time trying to get used to the wife and mother thing. It’s time I just did it and take it for what it is.
To plant a garden. I really want to grow something. Up until now, I tend to kill plants, but with a little attention and effort, I hope I can do it. I think I’ll start with an herb garden.
2) Move forward in my spiritual life…I’m tired of just holding on to what I have learned in the past. I want new revelations and understanding this year.
3) Take control of my thought life. I know that my mind is a battlefield. It is time that I pay attention to what I am thinking and where my thoughts are leading me. I know that I am capable of doing this, but often, have found myself too lazy to do it!
4) Get excited about what is going on around me. I am privileged to influence where I am now…no more wishing I was somewhere I am not. I want to learn to joyfully be where I am.
5) Accountability—to let other people into my life so that they can help give me perspective.
6) To pray more intentionally, making prayer my first reaction to my daily circumstances, not my last resort.
7) To love others. It’s so easy to be critical. I want to love people in a way that empowers them to become who they were created to be. This especially applies to my husband.
9) Cut myself some slack. I think I’m my toughest critic and may stand in my own way.
10) Be expectant, always looking forward with anticipation of what new, exciting and good thing lies ahead.

You know how I love a list!
1. More live music. There is just something about a live show that is good for your soul.
2. Stand up for myself. I am good at standing up for other people or causes but not always for myself. I am worth it!
3. Write more. Blogging, personal journaling, lists, better emails to my friends. All are ways to document my journey, my beliefs, my emotions, and my life, and all are wonderful tools to evaluate who I was, who I am, and who I am becoming….and what decisions and events led to those places.
4. Get my clutter under control. For real. Aspects of my life are extremely detailed and organized, but I move from one thing to the next so quickly that I seldom truly wrap up the remnants of the first task. This is a constant source of stress and makes me feel out of control!
5. Make more time for fun and relaxation! I’ve spent several years working hard and crashing harder, but when I reach out to my friends, I am rejuvenated!
6. Eat better and sleep better. Along with organization, these are the first things I let slide when I am busy or stressed. I need to be more faithful to my body!
7. Learn to accept great rather than demanding perfect. I heard some advice last fall that really hit home: “The path to perfection only leads to procrastination.” There is no shame in “great!”
8. Make sure people know I appreciate them. I have so many truly wonderful people in my life, and I want to be sure they always feel as special as they are.
9. Read. I was always the kid with the flashlight under the covers and a book on every road trip. As an adult, it is rare that I read anymore, and I know that I am missing out on so much knowledge and so many unknown worlds.
10. Spend more time with my family. They are the most loving and supportive people, and I would be lost without them!
